Day 138: Hanging Pail Flower Basket

‘Tis the time of year when beach toys abound. Pails and shovels are everywhere and they are really inexpensive. I knew I wanted to do something using them but that I also wanted to do something a bit unconventional.

Flowers in a pail

I bought the beach toy set still not quite sure what I wanted to do. Fortunately, the beach toys were right near the floral department in this particular store. My idea was born. I didn’t like any of the flowers that I saw there though, so I had to wait until I could get to a real flower shop. I decided to get some Techno Blue Lobelia. I liked the flowing nature of the plant, and, since my projects are inspired by the sea, the blue flowers seemed appropriate. Hopefully this will soon be covered with little blue flowers. Of course, I don’t have the greenest of thumbs, so it could be dead in a couple of weeks. If it flourishes, I may post pictures of it in a future post. If it dies, I will just let it rest in peace.

Seriously, I liked the idea of the pail as a hanging flower basket and while it isn’t totally obvious in the photo, I left the little shovel in the dirt just to play up the beach theme a bit more.
